E-Commerce AI Shopping Assistant

An AI shopping assistant sits inside your store and does what a good floor salesperson does: works out what the customer actually wants, narrows a large catalogue to three sensible options, checks stock, and afterwards handles order tracking and returns without a human.

Who it's for

Shopify, WooCommerce and custom stores with a large catalogue.

What changes

Higher conversion on catalogues too big to browse comfortably.

Key takeaways

  • Most useful above roughly 200 SKUs, where browsing stops being viable.
  • "Where is my order" is usually the single largest support ticket category — this removes it entirely.
  • Connects to live inventory, so it never recommends something out of stock.
  • Builds in 3–6 weeks from ₹45,000 on Shopify or WooCommerce; longer for custom stores.
  • Does not fix a bad catalogue — thin product data limits how well it can recommend.

Search is where large catalogues lose money

Standard store search is keyword matching. A customer types "something for a leaking tap" and gets nothing, because no product title contains those words. They type "gift for father in law" and get nothing. They give up.

The assistant works on meaning rather than keywords. It understands that a leaking tap needs a washer or a cartridge, asks one clarifying question about the tap type, and returns two options with the price and whether they are in stock.

This matters in proportion to catalogue size. Under about 200 SKUs a customer can browse; over a thousand, browsing is hopeless and search is the whole experience.

What it connects to

The assistant is only useful when it is reading live data rather than a stale export. The integration depth differs by platform.

PlatformIntegrationTypical build

WooCommercePlugin + REST API3–5 weeks
MagentoREST/GraphQL4–6 weeks
Custom storeWhatever API exists; database read if not5–8 weeks
No API at allScheduled catalogue syncPossible, with a stock-accuracy caveat

Live stock is the part worth paying for. An assistant that confidently recommends a product which sold out yesterday is worse than no assistant, because it converts a browsing customer into an annoyed one.

The order-status ticket disappears

In almost every e-commerce support inbox, the largest single category is some version of "where is my order". It is high volume, low value, and emotionally charged when something has gone wrong.

The assistant handles it end to end: identifies the customer from their phone number or order ID, pulls live tracking, and answers with the actual status and expected date. If the shipment is genuinely delayed, it says so plainly and offers the options your policy allows rather than stalling.

Clients consistently underestimate how much support load this alone removes.

Returns, without the argument

Returns are where policy gets applied inconsistently, because a tired human at 6pm makes a different call than a fresh one at 10am. The assistant applies your written policy identically every time, processes the ones that clearly qualify, and escalates edge cases with a recommendation and the reasoning.

That consistency is worth more than the labour saved. Customers who get a predictable answer complain less, and your team stops relitigating the same decision.

Where to put it

On the site it belongs on the product listing and product detail pages, not buried on a support page — the moment of hesitation is where it earns its money.

For Indian D2C brands it is usually worth running the same assistant on WhatsApp as well, because a large share of repeat customers would rather message than open the site again. Order tracking over WhatsApp is one of the highest-satisfaction things you can ship.

What goes live in your store

A live assistant connected to your catalogue and order system, semantic product discovery, stock-aware recommendations, order tracking, returns handling within your policy, human escalation, and an analytics view of what customers searched for and did not find. That last report is a product roadmap you did not have before.

FAQ

E-Commerce Shopping Assistant — your questions

Will it recommend products that are out of stock?

Not where we have a live inventory connection, which is the default on Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento. If your store has no API and we are syncing on a schedule, there is a window where stock can drift, and we set the sync frequency against how fast your inventory moves and tell you the residual risk.

Can it increase average order value?

It can suggest complements and bundles in context — the washer with the cartridge, the case with the phone — which usually lifts basket size. We would rather you measured it than took our word for it, so we instrument it from day one with a clean before-and-after.

Does it work with our 5,000-SKU catalogue?

That is where it works best. Large catalogues are exactly the case where keyword search fails and human browsing collapses. The build takes longer because the catalogue needs cleaning and enriching first, but the return is proportionally bigger.

Can customers complete checkout inside the chat?

We normally hand off to your existing checkout with the cart pre-filled, rather than rebuilding payment inside chat. Your checkout is already optimised and PCI-compliant; duplicating it adds risk for very little gain. On WhatsApp we send a payment link instead.
